The Portraits of Changemakers series focuses on visionary individuals who work at Aeromag and who, every day, demonstrate a willingness to make a difference in the world. Among them, Olivier Bhérer, Mechanic at our Montreal station (YUL), Quebec.
Olivier has been part of the Aeromag family for five years. He initially joined the team as a Deicing Technician, later moved into the role of Apprentice Mechanic, and eventually transitioned to his current position as a Mechanic. He is responsible for ensuring that the trucks function properly and remain in top condition, so the equipment is ready to handle winter operations.
“Every day brings its share of challenges, whether big or small, and that’s what makes the job exciting,” says Olivier. The maintenance team plays a vital role in supporting deicing operations, a critical aspect during the cold season. The day-to-day variability continually pushes the team to innovate and refine their work methods. Working with high-quality, well maintained deicing equipment allows them to respond effectively to the demands of the field.
“In the winter season, no two days are the same. Each morning, I arrive at work with confidence and determination, ready to tackle whatever challenges arise. From maintenance and mechanical repairs to diagnostics and various related projects, my days are always busy.”
Summer maintenance is crucial for successfully preparing for the winter season. During the winter, trucks operate tirelessly and must meet high performance standards. Therefore, summer is a critical time for the maintenance team to address issues that were put on hold during the peak season. Each truck undergoes a thorough inspection and is held to strict quality standards. Several annual recertifications must be completed to ensure the vehicles remain compliant and safe. It’s also an opportunity to implement system modifications that optimize operations or enhance performance. Every component is meticulously reviewed, as this level of diligence makes all the difference when the cold season returns.
The harsh winter brought its share of challenges. The team had to take on various tasks to ensure the fleet could continue operating without interruption. By joining forces, they managed to build a strong, efficient, and resilient team. The aging of the trucks posed a significant challenge, leading to an increasing number of major repairs. Despite this, they never gave up and worked tirelessly to keep operations running. Their commitment and determination remain at the heart of their collective success.
Olivier might use his determination and sense of collaboration to reach new heights as a team, but he isn’t the only changemaker at Aeromag. Discover the other fascinating portraits of the key players in our big family.
