The Portraits of Changemakers series focuses on visionary individuals who work at Aeromag and who, every day, demonstrate a willingness to make a difference in the world. Among them, Goldie Ali, Administrator at our Calgary station (YYC), Alberta.
Goldie has been an invaluable member of the Aeromag team for five years, contributing her expertise and commitment to a wide range of essential functions. In her role, she oversees office operations, ensuring the efficient flow of daily tasks. She plays a critical part in data entry and record-keeping, consistently maintaining accurate and organized documentation.
Additionally, Goldie handles invoice processing and expense tracking, while providing vital support in recruitment, onboarding, and employee file management. With her versatility, attention to detail, and work ethic, Goldie greatly contributes to the continued success of the team.
When asked about what makes her proud to be part of Aeromag’s team, Goldie shared that there are many aspects of the company that she takes pride in, but the one that stands out the most is the company’s core values. She emphasized that Aeromag’s values—Collaboration, Ambition, Respect, and Excellence—resonate deeply with her beliefs. Goldie expressed her pride in working for a company that places such a strong emphasis on these values, which she feels are essential in fostering a positive work environment.
“Holding an operational role in the aviation industry as a woman is incredibly rewarding. It offers a dynamic environment where my skills in problem-solving, adaptability, and leadership continue to grow. While challenges exist in every industry, the aviation sector is evolving, with more women choosing to build careers in this field and make a meaningful impact.”
As part of the Operations Support team, Goldie plays a key role in coordinating employee travel for severe weather events or additional training. During the winter season, she works with the team to assign Go Team members (trained employees who provide backup support at stations in need). She handles tasks such as contacting employees, arranging travel logistics, issuing per diems, and tracking costs. Goldie ensures the process runs smoothly while staying within budget.
During the summer months, Goldie’s responsibilities shift to a focus on planning. The Operations Support team meets regularly during this time to discuss and prepare for the upcoming deicing season. Their main objective is to improve operational efficiency, enhance resource planning, and refine processes and procedures to ensure a successful deicing season ahead. Goldie plays a key role in these discussions, contributing her expertise to ensure everything is in place for next season.
This winter presented several challenges for Goldie and the operational support team. Due to limited staff availability, coordinating Go Team support to other stations, while balancing the needs at YYC, proved difficult. Last-minute travel adjustments caused by flight delays and extended stays required frequent itinerary changes, creating minor hurdles. Despite these challenges, effective planning and adaptability allowed the team to minimize disruptions and ensure continued support to the stations in need. So far, during the 2024-2025 season, Goldie has helped coordinate 263 Go Team employees providing support across various stations.
Whether planning for the future or managing immediate challenges, Goldie consistently plays a vital role in ensuring smooth operations and continuous improvement within the team. Her contributions are not only key to day-to-day success but also to the long-term growth and efficiency of the organization.
Goldie might use her determination and passion to reach new heights with her Calgary team, but she isn’t the only changemaker at Aeromag. Discover the other fascinating portraits of the key players in our big family.
