The Portraits of Changemakers series focuses on visionary individuals who work at Aeromag and who, every day, demonstrate a willingness to make a difference in the world. Among them, Alexandre Therrien, Operations Manager at our Montreal station (YUL).
Alexandre has been part of the Aeromag team for almost 15 years. In his very first season, he held the position of Deicing Technician, before becoming Bay Lead. He went on to become Operations Supervisor and then Operations Manager. This path has given him the experience he needs to take on a management role in operations.
Alexandre recalls his first season:
“Without really knowing what to expect, I started my first season at the bottom of the ladder. It was a very busy season, which gave me the experience I needed to progress within the company.”
Today, Alexandre and the other members of the Operations Management team are involved in the recruitment process for deicing technicians, which begins as early as August. On average, between 25 and 50 seasonal employees are recruited at the beginning of the new season at YUL. The seasonal nature of the deicing technician position represents a recruitment challenge. Therefore, we must focus on employee retention to simplify recruitment every year.
What does the ideal profile of a deicing technician look like? You should be able to adapt to unpredictable weather, work well in a team, enjoy winter and outdoor activities, and most importantly, stay committed without getting cold feet. Teamwork and respect for the company’s values are essential to working at Aeromag. It’s important to collaborate at all levels, to have the ambition to contribute to the ecological transition, to respect differences and advocate continuous innovation while respecting the highest safety standards in the aviation industry.
